This last week in digital media class was tons of fun. Our project was to shoot a chase scene. When I heard that, I immediately went to work on a script. It would be an intense video where my cousin would chase my brother. Once I had finished my script, I began work on my storyboards. I knew I would need lot of different shots and lots of angles to make the video exciting and interesting. it took me a couple days in class to finish my script and storyboards, and when I got home from school that day, I I got my brother and my cousin together at my house and we started filming. Their acting was amazing, far better than I had expected. It was pretty fun to see Jacob's reaction when I told him Ben was going to whack him over the head with a tree branch. Also please send prayers for Jacob's knee, which was slammed into a metal chair. We filmed everything in about an hour, and all that was left was for me to edit it. It took me three days to edit and the end result is actually really good. Its the project I'm most proud of out of everything I've made this year. You can check it out on my videos page.

These last couple of weeks in digital media were pretty fun. We were given raw movie shot footage from a company called Framelines that we had to edit into a finished clip. The clip was of a girl's dream where she is chased by a psychopath with an axe. When I started editing the footage I couldn't believe how tiny the pieces I was using were compared to the amount of footage I had to work with in total. There might've been a couple hours worth of shots, and my video ended up being barely over a minute. The pieces I used were extremely small, because I wanted the cuts to be fast so that the scene would seem more tense. The hardest part was going searching through the raw video for the exact shots I wanted, and having to work with only what I was given. The acting wasn't the best either, and I had to speed up a couple of the clips to make it look like they were actually running with some energy. Once I got all my clips cut out and put together I had to find music. There were a couple key points in the video (when the murderer notices the girl, and when he catches her) that I wanted the music to do something on. After searching for a while, I found a song with a couple of those spots. They were too close together though so I had to stretch the song. Once I got those to match up, it looked and sounded pretty good. I had a lot of fun with this project and I'm looking forward to seeing what else I can create through editing.
We received a very unusual assignment in digital media class this last week. We were required to make a video that told a story, but there's a catch. We couldn't have any dialogue in the video. I thought it sounded like a lot of fun and I was eager to get started, but for a while, I was completely stumped as to what my video should be. I started out with an idea for a time loop, kind of like that movie Ground Hog Day, and that idea morphed into one thing or another until I had my final draft, as it were. My video would be about a normal day in my life but odd things like freezing, segments disappearing and sound cutting out would make it seem very strange. At the end it would be revealed that the video was actually being edited in Premiere Pro, which is what was causing all the wackiness. I started out by hauling a camera and tripod around with me everywhere I went, for one day, taking little shots of everything. I took almost 100 shots in one day! It took almost ten minutes to import them all to the computer. Once I had my shots I was ready to start the editing. I applied all the strange affects I mentioned before randomly throughout the video, and even though it took a day longer than it was supposed to, it turned out fairly well. The video ended up being seven minutes long, far longer than anything I or anyone else in my class has made. When my teacher watched it he was very impressed and wanted to send it to state as a promo for video production but the maximum time is five minutes, so we couldn't. All in all I think it's one of my best projects so far, and you should check it out in the videos page.
Hello again my friends, as of today I am still sitting at exactly zero page views, so I would appreciate it if one of you would come visit sometime. Anyway, This last week in my digital media class, I was required to make another PSA. This time I chose to do mine against abortion. Once I recorded my voice over, I had to pick out pictures of young children to put in my video. This was the hardest part of the entire project, because almost all of the available photos were either low quality, or from a censored website. Once I found enough quality pictures, I put them into my editing software only to find that they were still pixelated. Dismayed, I told my teacher and he told me it would look fine once it was rendered out, so I moved on. I had to learn how to use keyframing to make my pictures move as the video is played. Once I figured out all the keyframing, I added in cross-dissolving to give good transitions between the different photos. All that was left visually after that was my end text sequence, which I wanted to soup up a little bit. I used an effect called film dissolve to fade in and fade out my text, and I used more keyframing to have the text move to make room for new text as old text faded away to make room. After all the visuals were done, I added in music. I rendered it out and the images were still pixelated. My teacher was able to fix it by messing with my settings, but I had to redo all my keyframing. After all that, it turned out looking really nice. You can check it out for yourself on the videos page.
Hey everyone, I hope you had a great Christmas and New Years! I enjoyed hanging out with family and ice skating while I was on break. Break is over now and school is back in full swing. In digital media class we've been playing around with Premiere Pro and Audition to refresh our memory of how they work and stuff. Its a ton of fun just messing around with these programs. I used Premiere Pro to create a cheesy version of the opening to Star Wars (I'm a huge fan of Star Wars). What was the most fun was using Audition to create a little song. while messing with Audition, I came across some auto-tuning features and other sound effects and decided I'd make a sort of parody of today's hip-hop music. So I got in the recording studio, came up with some funny lyrics, got myself a beat, threw them in Audition and let it do its magic. What came as a result is an extremely funny sounding song, and I've been jamming out to it ever since. You can listen to it too (at your own risk) by going to my videos page.
Over the course of the last couple weeks in my digital media class, I was required to make a public service announcement. The hardest part of the whole thing was picking a topic to do mine on. After watching tons of PSAs on YouTube, I chose to do mine over child deaths in hot cars. I chose it because I would only need one easy shot, and some text graphics. First I made my graphics. I used staggered entrances for different pieces of text, which gave it a very powerful effect. I actually typed part of the text twice and exported it like that. I didn't notice until my teacher said something. Next I made a voice over for the end of the video. After that, I had my good friend Paige be my actor, and we filmed the shot. Thanks to her amazing acting skills. We were done in no time. I paid her in candy Once I got the shots, graphics, and music pieced together, it looked pretty good. If you want to, go check it out on my videos page.
Hello again everyone! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I did, and now i'm really looking forward to Christmas. This week in my digital media class we made Christmas greetings for our school's tv channel. It was a simple and fun project. What took longest was drawing my image to be shown while the audio was playing. I used Adobe Illustrator as per usual. I drew chestnuts roasting on a fire. (the Christmas Song was playing in the background.) It turned out pretty well and I think it'll spread plenty of holiday cheer.
Hello again! It's been a while since my last project and a lot has happened. After I finished my radio commercial over the Xera Silent Gaming Controller, I moved on to making a video commercial. This turned out to be much harder than I initially thought it would be. I thought, I made a radio commercial, how hard can adding video into the recipe make it? It turned out, it made it much more difficult. I was now confined to things that I could actually present for people to see. besides that, because of the video techniques I wanted to use. I had to take video from one camera and audio from another. It all turned out all right though. I'm happy with the finished product, and I couldn't have done it without my star actor Gary.
In the last week I had to use adobe Audition to create a radio commercial. I had to make it for a theoretical product of my choice, which turned out being pretty fun. I made my commercial over the "Xera Silent Gaming Controller." A controller much like an Xbox controller, that doesn't make any noise. The first step was to write my script. At first I didn't think I'd be able to come up with enough to reach the required length, but after I wrote everything out, I ended up having almost twice as much as I needed. The hardest part was throwing things out to shorten it, while still keeping everything I needed. after that, everything was a breeze. I got my voice over and sound effects recorded and imported to Audition. Then all that was needed was fine tuning like editing out breaths and balancing my audio levels. The final product, though I dislike my voice, was pretty good.
